July Updates

I was planning to write and share a few updates that you might find interesting, and I'll still do so, but sadly, the good news about what we have accomplished together is balanced on the karmic scale by some news that isn't as great. Every year the monsoon season in Nepal brings with it floods and landslides and this year is not exception. It is never a good thing for ANY family that is affected, but we have received word that the community in West Rukkum who we helped through the winter months after the disastrous  earthquake last year, have now suffered more devastation. We had helped the children with school supplies and school dress and other support, but now, sadly, the school has been washed away. We know that there will be a need for support and are already in touch with community leaders.  Any help now will send such a powerful message of hope for a community that once again faces daunting challenges.

The simple fact is that need never ends. Never. So we'll do our best once again to help. I hope you'll join us and
make a gift of hope today.

So.... let me shift gears for a moment and show you why this matters. Let me show you the difference that your support makes. Please, take a moment to watch this video highlighting our Green Homes, Green Kathmandu program's successful conclusion of Phase One. I am so proud of our partners in Kathmandu. The Green Homes effort is a true model for successful community engagement that addresses one of the most critical issues facing the global community -- climate change.

With your continued support, Phase Two, will begin soon. Stay tuned. But, for now, take a moment to watch the video and feel rightfully proud knowing that you helped to make this happen.

There's more to talk about, of course, but I don't want to overload your inbox on a Sunday morning. I'll write again soon, though, to share more on Project Hope, our major education initiative and I want to highlight much more for you on the work we're doing with the women's entrepreneurial network that is empowering teams of women. Starting with the harvesting of raw materials to product design, production, and marketing, we're changing the future for these women and their families. It is another thing to be proud of.

In addition, we're joining a consortium of donors who are working on a climate change adaptation and resiliency effort as we seek to restore and preserve water sources for an agricultural community at serious risk. And then there's the cancer care center in Janakpur -- existing and planned -- that is so critically important not just for Nepal but the region.

Livelihoods, health, environment, and education. These are the four pillars on which Engage Nepal is built. Every one of these efforts is important and worthy of our support. You make the difference. You touch the lives. You offer the hope.

So please, let me call on you once again to help. We need your support more than ever. There is such tremendous momentum. There is so much we can do together.

Let's change the future. Let's Engage Nepal.
