How to Show You Care
I’d like to take a moment today to update you on one of our latest undertakings.
The Consious Connections Foundation (CCF), a good partner we respect tremendously, has been working with the Association for Craft Producers (ACP) in Kathmandu for the past 35 years. CCF has seen the difference ACP makes in the lives of countless artisans - mostly women - for whom ACP’s support is so verly important. It isn’t just about livelihoods, though, that is an important part. It is about commuity. It is about support and encouragement and engagement. And it is about giving the girls in the community the skills and, most critically, the educaiton that will let them shape a future of promise for themselves.
ACP, however, has seen their operations devastated by the flooding that has hit parts of Kathmandu. Their dyeing, carpentry, and glass units have been heavily affected, with water levels reaching up to approximately three feet. As a consequence, all the machinery in these units were submerged in muddy water. The finished products and the raw material - yarns, fabrics, dyes, chemicals, wood - in these units were all extensively damaged.
Our partners at the Conscious Connections Foundation are working hard to help at this difficult time for the ACP and the families who rely on it. Based on prelimiary feedback from ACP we know that the damage was extensive and Engage Nepal would like to give the Conscious Connections Foundation a $2000 grant to help ACP get back on their feet. I’m writing to all of our supporters to see if we can raise the funds to make that happen.
Most of us don’t know what it is to face such a delicate balance where the loss of a day’s wages means your children might go hungry that might - but that is the reality for many in Nepal. That is why getting ACP back up and running matters and that is why our partners at the Concious Connection Foundation are working hard to help the ACP and the families who rely on it. Please. Will you help?
You can donate here.
And please stay tuned - there is more to come on our other programs. Whether working with vulnearble women or giving kis a quality education, we are committed to ensuring that your support touches lives in a meaningul way.
Next week I’ll tell you more about a new climate adaptation project that combines both environmental and livelihood issues in the Solu region of Solukkhumbu. Today though, I hope you will join us in offering the promise of hope to the families working in partnership with the Association of Craft Producers
As always, thank you. We cannot do this without you.
Let’s change the future. Let’s Engage Nepal.
Namaste,
Scott
