More Help on the Way

September 13, 2026 Dear Friends, Already the disaster in Nepal is beginning to fade from the headlines. It’s a painful irony: as public attention recedes, the hardest work of recovery is only just beginning. That is why sustained, committed partnership matters — and why Engage Nepal and our network of trusted Nepali organizations remain fully engaged. Thanks to your generosity, our initial transfer of nearly $30,000 allowed us to reach almost 700 families — close to 3,000 people in urgent need. HomeNet Nepal led the major effort, with Fusion Nepal playing a vital role in purchasing and distributing relief goods. Together, we delivered rice, clothing, cookstoves, blankets, mosquito nets, dignity kits, medical kits, and more. We also brought in two large generators to power health posts in Nuwakot so their essential work could continue uninterrupted. On Monday, we will send another $10,000 to one of our strongest partners, the Trans-Himalayan Women’s Environment and Livelihood Program (T‑HELP). These funds — donated by friends of T‑HELP here in the United States — will provide beds, cookstoves, cooking gas, and other urgently requested support identified by local officials. Partnership with local and national authorities is critical. Too many groups have rushed in without asking what communities actually need. As a result, surpluses of rice and clothing now sit unused, while families still lack beds or the means to prepare meals. Our partners are doing it differently. They are coordinating closely with local leaders and health officials, and tomorrow Engage Nepal’s coordinator, Om Thapaliya, will meet with the Director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Agency to determine how we can best support the national response. Today, we also joined the coordinating committee in Bidur Municipality in Nuwakot, where we reaffirmed our commitment to develop a comprehensive proposal for assistance in the days ahead. We will share more details on the T‑HELP effort soon and will continue updating our blog on the webpage. For now, we wanted to give you this quick report — because you have made all of this possible. There is so much more to do, but with your help, we will continue to offer hope in the face of disaster. It was created by Hardik Shakya, a second‑year student at the Deerwalk Technical Institute in Kathmandu. Several students submitted excellent concepts, but Hardik’s stood out. We’re grateful to the entire Deerwalk team — they also helped redesign our webpage, another example of the meaningful partnerships we are proud to build in Nepal.
